Detailed information

Product detailed description

For professionals in arboriculture and work at height who require reliable and safe equipment, the Panther Spikes tree climbing spurs with Speed quick release and long spike are an essential tool. Manufactured by the traditional Czech producer Panther Spikes since 1991, they are the result of many years of experience and proven manufacturing processes. Their construction is designed for optimal support and stability when working on trees and wooden poles where branches do not provide sufficient support.

  • Lightness and Strength: Special aluminum alloy for optimal weight-to-strength ratio, tested for high loads.
  • Adjustable comfort: Height-adjustable laminate shell with padding and a wide Velcro strap for individual adjustment and user comfort.
  • Stable Fixation: The specific shape of the spurs allows the lower strap to be threaded between the spike and the hook, ensuring firm foot stability.
  • Guaranteed Safety: Load-bearing elements (hook, spikes) are laboratory tested for high loads, guaranteeing reliability in demanding conditions.
  • Durable Materials: Spikes made of alloyed steel and shell made of layered glass and carbon fabric for long life and durability.

These tree climbing spurs are designed as an effective work aid that allows climbers to gain stable support on wooden poles or trees without branches. Their simple yet highly functional design involves piercing the wood at an angle, creating a safe place to lean or stand, which is crucial for performing specific arboricultural and height work.

Limitations and compromises

To maintain a high level of safety and functionality, regular inspection of all spur components and their proper maintenance are essential. The effectiveness and safety of use are conditioned by correct climbing technique and appropriate selection of the tree surface on which the spurs are used.

PANTHER SPIKES Alu SPEED Spurs

  • Made of aluminium - light and strong.
  • The steps are height adjustable.
  • The shell (calf support) is made of laminate and its colour depends on the customer, the standard is yellow.
  • The shell is lined to ensure maximum comfort. Around the calf, the footbed is fastened with a wide strap with Velcro.
  • The lower attachment is a speed strap.
  • Long spike length.
  • The climbing spikes are specifically shaped so that the strap can be passed between the spike and the hook, ensuring maximum fixation.

Construction of Panther running boards:

The main supporting element is the hookwhich is made of a special aluminium alloy. After multiple heat treatments, it has parameters that guarantee maximum safety for the user. These parameters were tested in the laboratory of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, and the result was the finding that the hook can withstand 650 kg without significant deformation. At higher loads, irreversible deformation occurred, but not rupture.

The second supporting element is three types of spikes. All are cast from alloy steel (Cr, Ni, Mo). After threading and subsequent heat treatment, when the spikes are hardened to 1000-1200 MPa, they are screwed to the hook with a pair of M8 screws. These screws are tightened to a value of 25 N/m and have a layer of adhesive applied to them, which prevents them from loosening on their own. The spikes are shaped to allow for a leather or synthetic strap to be worn underneath, which provides stability to the foot in the ankle area. Due to the perpendicularity to the base, the grinding angle is 30°.
The spikes were also tested in the aforementioned laboratory, and up to a value of 650 kg, there is no significant deformation or breakage. At higher loads up to 1000 kg, permanent deformation of the spike tip occurs, but no breakage.

The third element is the shell. It is made of several layers of glass fabric and reinforced with a strip of carbon fabric. Holes in the armrest allow the armrest to be moved according to the user's needs. The shell is fixed to the hook with a pair of M6 screws. A calf support is attached to this shell with Velcro fasteners. This is shaped longitudinally to ensure maximum comfort for the user.

The leg is attached to the hook either by textile strips with velcro or leather strap.

What are tree climbing spurs and what do they do?
Tree climbing spikes, treads or boots are common names used for this tool. They are attached to the outside of workers' boots with Velcro straps or straps. They were developed as a working aid to help climbers get a proper foothold on a wooden pole or tree without branches. They play a key role in tree work and without them some jobs would not be possible. The treadles have a very simple and effective design. They work by stabbing into the wood at an angle to give the climber a foothold or "place" to lean or stand.
