The Tango brand was created out of the need to develop work footwear specifically adapted to the demands of tree climbing. Before the Tango brand existed, there was no footwear on the market that met these specific requirements. Often, trekking or approach footwear for mountain sports, or cut-resistant boots, were used, but they either wore out quickly or were too heavy and inflexible for tree climbing.
In 2009, Friedrich Drayer, in collaboration with an Italian footwear manufacturer, developed the first climbing footwear specifically for professionals in tree care, named Tango. This footwear offered comfort, a secure fit, and excellent grip on trees thanks to a soft rubber compound in the sole. Despite initial problems with sole durability, continuous improvements led to the development of the Tango Vi model with a more durable and flexible Vibram sole.
Since then, Tango has evolved into a comprehensive brand of products for tree care. The product range includes climbing ropes, prusik loops, static ropes, chainsaw chains, rope loops, cut-resistant boots, and much more. Particularly noteworthy are the textile eyelets for lacing, found in all Tango boots, including the Tango Extreme and Tango light cut-resistant boots.
The Tango brand, originally intended only for footwear, was eventually used for a range of proprietary products and has established itself as an independent brand since 2014.
